Gourmet Coffee Gift Baskets: Creating a Beautiful Gift Basket

By Sirena Van Schaik

Christmas is coming soon. Actually, at the time that I write this article, it is still 6 weeks away but everyone likes to remind you that you will be Christmas shopping before too long, even if it is in June.

Of course, Gourmet Coffee Gift Baskets are an excellent gift to give people at any time of the year. Coffee is a loved beverage that almost everyone drinks and many people enjoy all the tasty treats and beverages that are found in the baskets.

You can purchase gourmet coffee gift baskets at just about any store. I have seen them in Zellers, Wal-Mart, grocery stores and many different coffee houses. They can range in price from 10 dollars to over a hundred dollars and they always seem to carry more things than you would actually want to use.

If you prefer not to purchase a gourmet coffee gift basket but would still love to give them out as gifts, then I would recommend making your own. They are fairly easy to make and can be as inexpensive or expensive as you want to make them.

What comes in a basket:

The basket: I would recommend spicing up the basket by using a variety of baskets and containers. It doesn’t have to be a traditional Easter bunny style basket but can be a nice jewellery chest or a clay pot that can be used for a potted plant later. Mix it up, have fun and never be boring.

The goodies: All baskets need a bunch of goodies and your basket will be no different. Fill your basket with a variety of the following.

  • Cookies and Wafers: Coffee and wafers just go hand in hand and you can add types that really fit the flavor of the coffee you are using.
  • Chocolates: Excellent for a basket that features chocolate flavored coffee or simply as a sweet to please the recipient of the gift.
  • Candies: Most candies will reflect the season. Candy canes for Christmas or candied eggs for Easter. You get the idea.
  • The Coffee: Of course you are going to need some gourmet coffee. You can purchase bags of gourmet coffee or you can make your own flavored coffees. Check out our how to recipe on Spiced Coffee.
  • The Extras: You can’t have a gourmet coffee basket without having a few accessories with it.
  • Coffee Cups: provide two nice coffee cups for the recipient and a guest in your basket. Make sure the cups reflect the theme of your basket.
  • Stir spoons: No, I’m not talking about those plastic stir sticks; instead I am talking about nice decorative stir spoons that you can purchase.
  • Coffee Grinder: If you are really generous, you can get a single shot coffee grinder to add to the basket. Make sure you give whole beans along with the grinder.
  • Candles: Scented candles are always nice in a gift basket and you can select candles that compliment the flavors of coffee that you chose.
  • Basket Wrap: I would recommend purchasing this at a dollar store. You can usually find rolls of it there and it only costs a buck. There is no need to purchase 20 dollar basket wrap since it will just be chucked anyways.
  • Ribbon: Make your own ribbons or buy preformed ribbons at dollar stores or any store that sells wrapping supplies.

When you get all your supplies together, line the bottom with tissue paper and then add in all the little goodies. Build in layers so you have some height to your basket and then wrap with the basket wrap. Finish off by attaching the bow and close any gaps in the wrap with small amounts of scotch tape.

And what you are left with is a beautiful gourmet gift basket that everyone would love to receive.
